Brian Chernett is Founder of The Academy for Chief Executives. He has 43 years' experience as managing director of private and public companies, including subsidiaries of Booker Bros McConnell, the Landmark Group, and several other major companies.
"Today's business world is one of rapid change," he says. "There are so many challenges that business leaders face: keeping up with market sector changes - domestic and global; impending legislative change; high staff turnover; planning strategically whilst retaining flexibility … to name but a few. How do you keep abreast of these changes when you are focusing all your energy on the day to day task of running your business?"
While Brian wouldn't claim that The Academy can provide all of the answers, "We're proud that over the past 16 years, we've inspired hundreds of CEO to achieve their dreams". Of course, as Brian notes, you might think that, as CEO of The Academy, he is bound to say this. However, he has run his own group of CEOs, Academy Group 2, since 1993, and can personally vouch for the successes and journeys that each and every member of that group has been through since joining. Brian firmly believes that, in this ever-changing environment, the key to staying ahead of the competition lies in effective networking, talking to people, being aware of impending changes and always being prepared to take action if the situation calls for it.
Central to his beliefs on effective leadership, is the belief that every leader should be a competent coach, either through having attended a formal coaching course, or through having had their own coach; someone they can model their personal coaching style on. Brian is a counsellor and consultant, having trained and worked for Relate. He is also a Master Practitioner in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming).
