Joe Adams, chairman of Academy Group 11, established his own management consultancy Adams & Associates in 1995. It specialises in training, coaching and motivation. Since founding the firm Joe has assisted a number of companies in achieving their goals and getting the best out of their people.

Although born in the USA, Joe has lived and worked in the United Kingdom since 1970. For twenty years, he combined the roles of national sales manager and managing director of Encyclopaedia Britannica UK and Ireland, during which time his outstanding ability in recruiting, training and motivating enabled the company to achieve consistent growth and Joe led the company to unprecedented heights of profitability.

Joe has chaired Academy Group 11 since 2002, and the group now has 12 members. He also is chairman of Leaders' Forum Group 6, which currently has eight members.

The groups exemplify the Academy's concept of a community of business leaders with a shared vision, who are passionate about leading inspirationally in the 21st Century. The members in both groups represent a great deal of wisdom, experience, talent and hard work, and a great deal of diversity, coming as they do from all sectors of industry, from computer technology companies to change management.

The collective value of people who know each other and support each other becomes a powerful human network, and as Joe says, "We are very serious about what we do – but we have a lot of fun doing it!"

With a passion for helping others to be their best, Joe is an accredited coach for the Institute of Directors, as well as a mentor for the Prince's Trust. Drawing on a wealth of experience as a successful businessman, coaching and motivating a sales force of 650, he has an NLP certificate from Sue Knight, in High Performance Coaching, and is a qualified NCFE life coach.

Joe believes that we are all capable of more than we tend to achieve in life, and that coaching can be the key to realising that potential. As Victorian novelist George Eliot observed: "It's never too late to be what you might have been".
